Remind ourselves of who God is and what He has done
In the waiting, let’s remind ourselves of who God is and what He has done. It’s wise to do so.
Psalms 107:43 says:
Let the one who is wise heed these things
and ponder the loving deeds of the Lord.
To find out what “these things” are, that are being referred to, it’s best to read the whole of Psalm 107. After giving thanks to God, the psalmist introduces the psalm with: Let the redeemed of the Lord tell their story. The psalmist is offering an open mic, if you will, to the redeemed of the Lord, giving them a time to share testimonies.
Each story reaches a crisis, and variations of the following phrase bring each story to a head:
Then they cried to the Lord in their trouble,
and he saved them from their distress. – Psalm 107:6, 13, 19, 28,
Whereafter, the redeemed are encouraged to
Let them give thanks to the Lord for his unfailing love and his wonderful deeds for mankind – Psalm 107: 8, 15, 21 and 31
The Psalm follows this cadence in storytelling format where we get to see that we are the ones in desperate need of saving. God is the one who steps in and saves the day and as we look back on that, as we see His hand of love, as we remember the wonderful things He has done, how He has stuck his hand in the mud and pulled us from the miry clay, His continued faithfulness, we can only give thanks.
So while we wait, let’s heed the things He has done for us, let’s ponder His loving deeds, let’s remind ourselves of who He is and give Him thanks.
